Thank you. Starmer’s exact position is not my preference but it’s so easy to lose control of the argument in a referendum campaign (pace AV and 2016, Renzi, Irish senate ) and more so halfway through what will be a very difficult term.
Agree it's a tricky one. I do see that tactically it makes sense. However, two issues. First, all he really had to do was make his policy about improving trade relations (amongst other things) with the EU - no need to paint himself into a corner by explicitly coming out agains the SM. Repeats May's mistake in a way. Second, on the "at least not in the first term " issue is that there is a real concern that we are all just so fatigued at our leaders lying to us. I do realise is this an omission rather than commission thing but even so, there is a lot of concern that public trust in our political system is all but evaporated. Very dangerous if so.
