A usual, a trenchant analysis although a bit off-target on Spain. Sanchez has said his government intends to meet the NATO 2% commitment before 2027, and Spain has been a significant arms supplier to Ukraine.
Thanks Simon. The trouble is that 2% is the new minimum and, ideally, the military should exist for actual fighting if required. And if politicians are going to talk a big European game, that combat readiness shouldn’t just apply to Russians crossing the Pyrenees. One interesting thing that’s hard to explain is why Spanish public opinion has turned so much more pro-Ukraine than Italian public opinion. Any ideas?
