You can listen to my interview with Anna Triandafyllidou for New Books in European Politics about What is Europe? co-written with Ruby Gropas (Routledge, October 2022) on Apple or Spotify.
In this book, Triandafyllidou and Gropas investigate the meaning of Europe – “a concept that takes different shapes and meanings depending on the realm of life on which it is applied and the historical period that we are looking at”.
Anna Triandafyllidou is a sociologist and recently appointed Canada Excellence Research Chair in Migration and Integration at Toronto Metropolitan University. Ruby Gropas leads the Social Market Economy team in the advisory service for the president of the European Commission.
For my Writers’ Writers reading list, Gropas chose The Age of Unpeace: How Connectivity Causes Conflict by Mark Leonard (Bantam Press, 2021) and Populocracy: The Tyranny of Authenticity and the Rise of Populism by Catherine Fieschi (Agenda Publishing, 2019) and Triandafyllidou chose My Name Is Europe by Gazmend Kapllani (published in Greek by Livanis in 2010 and in French by Éditions Intervalles in 2015), and Europe and the Other and Europe as the Other by Bo Stråth (Peter Lang, 2011).
